KeyTrak, the leading provider of key and asset management systems, will spend the month of April focusing on educating property owners and managers on how they can limit liability connected to key control-related security incidents on their properties. To show how its electronic key control systems can meet this need, KeyTrak plans to attend the Property Management Exposition and trade shows hosted by the California Apartment Association and Chicagoland Apartment Association.

“Liability risks for multifamily properties are particularly high during the summer months when a high volume of residents are moving in and out,” said KeyTrak Vice President of Sales Richard Battle. “To reduce the likelihood of lawsuits, property owners and managers must have a 100 percent automatic verifiable audit trail to track keys and keep employees accountable.

“If properties use email alerts to notify residents that an employee of the property has checked out the key to the resident’s unit, it’s also important that managers make sure the resident information is synced with the property management system through an automatic integration. Our systems do all of these things.”

KeyTrak’s Multifamily Plus system, which is designed specifically for multifamily properties, uses an electronic drawer and iButton key tags to track system activity as soon as a key is removed. To prevent unauthorized users from removing keys, the system uses secure access levels and a tamper-proof drawer. It integrates with property management software such as MyBuilding.org.
