Jefferson County has over 20 keys for our jail cells, visitation and attorney rooms, vehicle fleet, and backup keys for areas that normally use our fob system. We also manage radios, tasers, and other equipment for 35 officers. KeyTrak helps us keep our high-dollar equipment accounted for and in good shape.

Before getting KeyTrak Guardian, keys, radios, and tasers were lost or accidentally taken home, causing them to get damaged or misplaced. We also had issues with them being lost on the worksite, leaving them accessible to inmates when they’re outside the cell block.

We stored them in the control room since officers are always in there monitoring the surveillance system. The problem with managing equipment not necessarily related to their job was that it could distract them from potential health and safety risks going on in the jail. We used to rely on a manual log and the honor system. Without supervision, maybe the staff wrote their name down, and maybe they didn’t. KeyTrak keeps us from worrying about accountability.

With KeyTrak Guardian, if something’s not turned in, we know exactly who has it. We’ve seen significantly fewer replacements for keys and equipment, which is a savings to the taxpayer.

KeyTrak was money well spent and has been a vast improvement in several of the equipment accountability shortfalls we’ve seen.
